I’ve realised something.
Apparently, I’m incapable of remembering that I watched any movie but Captain America last year. It takes some prodding before I remember that I also saw movies like Super 8, Pirates of the Caribbean 4, Cars 2, Tintin, Sherlock Holmes 2, Nasi Lemak 2.0, Petaling Street Warriors, and Tangled last year. I’m sure I saw others – just can’t remember them right now. haha
I’m not sure what happened. It’s as though Captain America just shoved everything else into some dark, dusty corner of my mind and took the whole “2011” shelf to itself.
I think the character of Steve Rogers just left such a deep imprint on my mind that it’s been rendered unforgettable. The Alan Silvestri score was lively and very likeable, and the visual effects were good (how did it not make the final nominee list for the VFX category in the Academy Awards? How??), but really, at the heat of it all is Steve Rogers. I probably sound silly and like a total fan but really… it has been a very long time since I saw a male movie character that I could like and admire. Mostly they’re cool but not necessarily admirable. This one was.
The film didn’t have an outstanding plot, but it had (1) a highly likeable lead, (2) a fun score, and (3) visual effects that made me think, “How did they do that?” and had me completely fooled into thinking they used a body double… No wonder it basically blacked out everything else in my mind.
