Fuji TV’s version of Murder on the Orient Express is… a trainwreck. It was split into two parts and I’m halfway through the first part – and I’ve been cringing almost from the beginning. The supporting cast is ok (a very star-studded cast it has too – lots of familiar names and faces) but the Poirot equivalent in this show is really what’s derailing it. The character is played in a rather over-the-top cartoonish manner. You can obviously tell that’s not the way the actor speaks normally, and he’s affecting an odd voice and mannerisms that just makes him look silly and pompous in a silly way. He’s just exaggerating his facial expressions and… ugh. This is not going well but I feel compelled to finish watching it.
